DECISIONS
(Proverbs 3:5,6)
By Sammy Tabuena

Proverbs 3:5,6 (KJV 1611)
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

God's Word says that when a person who trusts in the Lord and acknowledges Him in all his ways, God will DIRECT HIS PATHS.
The Lord did NOT promise to make the paths "smooth" or "straight", but that he will direct our paths.

***
Observe how other bible versions have changed God's pure Word.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New American Standard Bible)
5Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.
6In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (The Message)
Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (Amplified Bible)
5Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.
6In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New International Version)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New International Version – UK)
5Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (Today's New International Version)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New International Reader's Version)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways remember him. Then he will make your paths smooth and straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (GOD’S WORD Translation)
5Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.
6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths smooth.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (New Century Version)
5 Trust the Lord with all your heart, and don't depend on your own understanding.
6 Remember the Lord in all you do, and he will give you success.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (Contemporary English Version)
5With all your heart you must trust the LORD and not your own judgment.
6Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow.

The Lord does not have to "clear the road" for Moses, Joshua, Daniel, or Paul. He just have to direct the paths of each one of them.

I. DECISIONS

Don’t trust your own mind

Proverbs 3:5
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Don’t trust your own heart

Proverbs 28:26
He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Proverbs 14:14
The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
Psalms 37:4
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

II. DECISIONS

Trust in the LORD.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Trust in the WORD of the LORD.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

***
The antecedent of "he" is "every word of God". The Word of God is alive and often referred to with a personal pronoun.

Who is "quick" and "powerful"? Who is "sharper" and is "piercing"? Who is a "discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart"? In whose sight is any creature not manifest? With whom are all things are "naked and opened" in his eyes?

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Who or what is the "one" that will judge that rejects Christ and His words?

John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

The Word of God, in written form, is called "Scripture".

Who spoke to Abraham? Who has foresight?

Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
3 … and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Who spoke to Pharaoh? Who raised him up?

Romans 9:17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
Exodus 9:13 And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
Exodus 9:16 And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth.

III. DECISIONS

Don’t make decisions that dishonor God.
Proverbs 12:15
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
Proverbs 19:20
Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

Don’t make decisions that disobey God’s Word.
Proverbs 29:25
The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

Be careful about listening to people who dishonor and disobey God.
To honor God and obey God is SAFE.

IV. DECISIONS

Make decisions according to God’s PERFECT WORD.

Psalms 19:7
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Psalms 18:30
As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

Make decisions according to God’s PERFECT WILL.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Psalms 27:14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
